Room 1: Carbon Farming Programme

Market integration of carbon credits from carbon farming has increasingly been explored by public and private actors as a tool to support the transition to sustainable farming practices and remunerate farmers for the environmental services they provide. Yet, carbon credits from carbon farming come with a number of challenges, e.g. regarding questions of permanence and feasible Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) approaches. This session aims to address current debates around carbon farming. It will address questions of carbon market design as well as standards and regulations, like the EU Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF) and article 6 of the Paris agreement. It will further reflect on insetting vs. offsetting approaches, explore new ways to account for non-permanent credits and discuss how to consider co-benefits of carbon sequestration.
